Formerly the northern part of the Selous Game Reserve, Nyerere National Park is Africa's largest national park and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Unlike the busy northern circuit, Nyerere offers a wilder, more remote safari experience. Its lifeblood is the mighty Rufiji River, which forms a complex network of channels, lakes, and swamps. This aquatic environment allows for unique boat safaris, where you can drift silently past pods of hippos, basking crocodiles, and elephants drinking at the water's edge. The park is also famous for its large populations of wild dogs, massive buffalo herds, and exceptional walking safaris.
